My name is Jennifer J New. I am the author of my next book DONNA JEAN a memoir of survival my mom’s childhood behind closed doors.

As early as I can remember my mom has told me how much I am loved. She has taken care of me from being a soft pudgy baby to adulthood in many ways. But most importantly, she tells me how much she appreciates time with me and how proud she is.

My mom bathed powdered and snuggled me as an infant. She sewed sun dresses shorts and crop tops and sent me out to play. Swinging digging in my sandbox unearthing worms and roly-polies.

Getting a fresh sheet from the clothesline she made lemonade in my kool-aid dispenser. In a tiny cup I sipped away taking in warm sunshine and blue skies. I climbed trees rode my bike was a daredevil on my roller skates enduring bruises and cuts.

When I returned to the house for lunch or supper my mom did not jump out from behind a door or a bedroom. I wasn’t frightened to walk down the hallway or go to sleep at night.
