On my latest social media updates you will get a glimpse of the editing abyss on my upcoming novel DONNA JEAN: Secrets Behind the Walls. This has been my morning writing routine here in middle Tennessee. For nineteen days I’ve been marking up the pages with bright green ink, drinking too much coffee, comforted with bulldog snores from under my pink desk.
There is a certain thrill seeing corrections and new ideas forming on the pages of my upcoming novel. Fall weather is the perfect time to put the final editing touches on the seasons my character endures and enjoys
From my home office window the leaves are turning yellow and red. The air is crisp with a slight breeze. Sunrise starts early coming up over the hills catching the autumn colors. What wonderful writing inspiration!
BEFORE ❌ Instead of mean words escaping from her mouth, the girl begins to cry around her words. “Take care of Donna Jean? I can’t. I’m getting ready to have our first child. I can’t. I just can’t.” Tears are hot on her face as she turns away.
AFTER 📝 But this girl is not going to give in to dad’s pleading. “My gosh. No. Look Hank.” The girl points to her stomach. The anger in her voice mounts. “We are starting our family. The answer is no. I will not take care of Donna Jean. Now go away. I need sleep.”
